Prom and WHY I HATE IT!

Sadly,
The archaic and barbaric prom system is approaching.
I HATE IT. I will probably be dragged by my friends.
Prom will turn the most anti-mainstream girl into Acceptance's lapdog.
The grinding.

what our prom looks like, except with less sophistication and more makeup,hairspray,
and suntan lotoin.

The slobbing
The blowing.
The bumbing.
The selection.
I think we are hard wired to feel superior.
Honestly...I'm no different.
I'm not psyched because there aren't any good selections for a girl like me.

I'd want my date to be a South African, photographer, hipster, who wears TOMS, and doesn't come his hair, and makes documentaries about social injustice and poverty...not some douchey, guitar playing John Mayer wanna be...
That's why I'm not psyched about prom.

Why can't I just go to prom with a south african, hipster, drug/tobacco free, Kurt Cobain?

Is that really too much to ask?

Why I Question Pharrell

As a member of his entertainment site KIDULT, I feel that there is a dichotomy between how I feel and what I should say. I also feel that there is an alegiance that I have with myself as an independent thinker. There has to be a voice of reason in last summer's situation. I know it's old and they've probably patched things up...but Pharrell and Lynn Hirschberg were careless! I feel that they live within this realm of fake heroism. Lynn, because she is a prominent "journalist" who "feels" that she brings issues to the world and Pharrell, because he feels that he is shepherding the world to a higher sense of existence through his music.( I admit, he is a musical genious and a brilliant man.) Being green doesn't make you a good person. Being articulate doesn't mean that you are right. Having Social pull doesn't mean that you can stab the opposing P.O.V in the back. Maybe this quote (like M.I.A's article for the nytimes) was taken out of context...

THIS QUOTE ANGERS ME.

Because he has failed to see the importance in her point of view.

He (like America) is being sooo blind to the point that he doesn't see that her point isn't vapid. SHE WAS THERE. If anything her point was more accurate than any government officials or journalist. Just because she doesn't work along side of the Prime and write legislation, doesn't mean that her account of her school BEING BOMBED is wrong. Everyone is sooo uncomfortable about making "important" people pissed, that they fail to be honest and live in reality. And in reality, "IMPORTANT" people are WRONG too!

I'm venting. But there is a point. It is wrong of him to be so blind and power stricken by Lynn Hirschberg.

Two of my favourite dresses on two of my favourite people, makes for some lovely viewing.

I absolutely Love the embellishment on the soft materials, the pop of neon and the subtle lace inserts.

It urges me to feel that were these two dresses were to mate the result would be some sort of super-dress that you could not look directly at. Somewhat like a solar eclipse.

I secretly want to live the life of Josephine Baker.

In my dream life I have like a gajillion peony gardens in my Chateau in Antananarivo, Madagascar.

Everyone else wants to live in the south of france, manhattan, and London...nope. I'll take Madagascar for 500. If that's not gully, I don't know what is.

Isn't it magnificent? This is where I'm going to put my chateau.

I'm going to recreate the Chateau des Milandes...aka Josephine Baker's old house.

There will be Peonies everywhere!

Taking A Break From My Paper...

I'm writing my historical investigation for I.B.
Of course it's about feminism :)
It's literally draining my self esteem because it's going to be graded externally.
That means that my paper is going to be sent to another I.B. country.
I pray that it's not India, China or South Africa...They are known for taking a 25/25 down to a 5/25.
I'm hoping that my name will win me some points in the leniency dept.

I'm praying that there is going to be an American grader who is based in Guateng. Who happens to be a feminst. and loves young feminist. Who's names are khametic.

4th Wave Feminism Article: I'M IN!

Although I identitfy with the 3rd Wave, the 4th Wave is sooooo much more defined. It completely resolves my issue that I lemented about In a previous post, involving random social climbers posing as liberated women.

(Don't even front and tell me that the Kardashian's even know who Rebecca Walker is. Or what modern feminism is for that matter.)

This new wave is all about transcending race, religion and social status to save the world. It addresses the issues at hand with our environment, wars, poverty, discrimination...etc. It's supposed to rebuild the feminine bond that has been destroyed by the 3rd wave indulgences like "Bad Girls Club", "The Bachelour", "Rock/Flavour of Love". It erases the competition and brings us all on the same level. There's no dichotomies when you are saving the world...

Hey!!!
  So I you all know who I got.
  I got...
Kanani!!!
  She is SO pretty, the note worked!! The mailman delivered her right infront of the door which isn't a good idea because she could get stolen but she is here now!! :)
  The only thing I don't like about her is her necklace, I think it's a little big on her. Her book is pretty cool.
  I also got mini Rebecca and Rebecca's book collection!! I found my cord to upload pictures. I will probably take the pictures when I  get back from school and then upload them onto my laptop with my mom's help, I could have done it on my mom's computer but it crashed, I swear!! :( I will try to upload the pictures but no prommises, my laptop is my dad's old laptop and he is a journalist so my laptop has old articles with famous people,eye witnesses and other stuff.

Speaking of South Africa...

As you know, I think Kevin Carter is an awesome photographer(Don't screw it up Taylor) I've been reading the Bang Bang Club, it's pretty much life changing. Anyway, I was strolling you-tube, looking for interviews. I found Ken Oosterbrook getting shot and wheeled off to the hospital ( it killed him.) But I did find a video...

It's by the Manic Street Preachers! They are a cool band from the UK and this song is pretty awesome. It's suprisingly not sad given the outcome of Kevin's life...

I really don't understand the placement of the whole "Kaffir Lover Forever" line. I get it. But really it doesn't make sense in context to the song. I don't believe that he necessarily loved black people...more like a humanitarian obligation to do the right thing by everyone.

 But hey, that's just me!

So I love M.I.A! Partially because I love all people who speak the truth about the government. Her's just happens to be the Sri Lankan government who institutes the mass genocide of Tamil people. It was like a halocaust of sorts down there man, they even have consentration camps! So, even though I'm a buddhist I'm leaning on the side of the Tigers. Buddha preaches against the killing of anything! It inhibits your enlightenment! Worldly things shouldn't bother you! Either way, I'm kind of ashamed that perhaps one of the most peaceful practices are involved in this!

ANYWAY!!!

NEW NAIL POLISH: MINTorJADE...It's All Green To Me!

 I've been experimenting with different nail polishes. In a previous post, I lemented about how I didn't want to be a slave to trends. It sounds lofty, but really I just don't have the time or energy or cash to keep up with these trends. Next thing you know, I'll be using dry shampoo and not washing my hair :(

So I figured that I try the jade (or mint in my case) nail polish and stick to washing my hair :)

I wore this outfit for a charity boxing match, which by the way is no where near as brutal as it sounds. It was a rather civilized affair and we spent the whole time on our own table eating the free desserts and drinking champagne, I'm sure there were some fights going on somewhere!

I'm slowly infiltrating some of my newly acquired summer garments into my wardrobe, building up to those acid brights and white, whites ala Sander and co!

Another one of my Christmas buys, a patient leather mulberry bag/laptop case in a yummy berry maroon, that miraculously changes colour to purple in the sun , you can sort of see what I mean in the second to last picture. Magical Mulberry.

I love any sort of material that just drapes on the body and these extra long trousers and shirt do exactly that, just the right amount of cling and just enough swing (Oh Jesus, I'm rhyming now).

Fashion fades...

I love pieces like this as it goes to show that it doesn't matter what age, colour, gender, class or creed; style is found in all forms and there is no restriction or formula for inspiration.
